HISTORY

January 1982 saw the gathering of a group of young Christians in their homes as they embarked on a spiritual quest to learn about God's will for their lives. After being informed by God during a group prayer session that education would be crucial to their work, Gary Kerr, one of the group's Bible teachers, rose to prominence over time. This calling struck a deep chord with a large number of those present that evening. God dutifully sent experienced instructors and generous givers to leave a legacy when the neighborhood grew to hundreds of residents. This legacy would provide future generations with a strong basis in a biblical worldview.

In accordance with Texas state law, Faith West was established as a nonprofit organization on March 28, 1983. With 175 students enrolled at first, its flagship program, Faith West Academy, opened for business in a refurbished strip center in September 1983. To make this new endeavor a success, committed teachers and staff kindly donated their time. In the three years that followed, the school moved into a renovated warehouse next to the Katy Freeway and hired administrative support. Enrollment reached a peak of 375 students. Three classes of Faith West Academy graduates, each with thirty students, received diplomas during this time. Interestingly, all thirty of the graduates made the transition to college with ease.
