NHS

nhs-logoThe Faith West Academy chapter of the National Honor Society was established to recognize outstanding high school students. More than just an honor roll, NHS serves to honor those students who have demonstrated excellence in the areas of scholarship, leadership, service, character, and citizenship. These characteristics have been associated with membership in the organization since their beginnings in 1921.

During the year, NHS members have an opportunity to participate in many activities that allow them to sharpen their leadership skills while benefiting our local and world communities.

Blood Drive

The National Honor Society sponsors several blood drives during the school year.  Donations benefit the Gulf Coast Regional Blood Center.  Students and staff are encouraged to participate, and anyone may come to the school that day to donate.  Both whole blood and plasma donations are taken during the blood drive.

NHS has 4 blood drives scheduled for the 2018-2019 school year.
  • September 5, 2018
  • November 28, 2018
  • February 6, 2019
  • April 10, 2019

The NHS held its first blood drive on January 14, 2009 and has held three blood drives a year since that date.  They collected 117 units during the 2017-2018 school year, which means that approximately 351 lives were saved from Faith West blood drives.

Food Drives

Several times during the year, the National Honor Society sponsors a Food Drive. Their goal is to collect one ton of food.  If every Faith West student donates 4 cans, they can reach their goal. This fundraiser benefits the local food bank and the less fortunate in our community.

Living Water International

Living Water International provides clean water (and the message of living water!) to communities in need, all over the globe.  The Faith West Academy chapter of the National Honor Society collects money during their Commons Café before chapel each Friday during the school year. As of the end of January, they raised over 700 dollars during the 2016-2017 school year.

Legacy at Falcon Point

The Legacy at Falcon Point, a local nursing home, benefits greatly from volunteer hours provided by members of the NHS. Saturday activities such as ice cream socials and “Name That Tune” provide residents with a fun afternoon interacting with the youth in their community.

Additional Volunteer Services

The Faith West Chapter of the National Honor Society also raises funds for the following volunteer services.

Veterans’ Day Chapel.  Each year the NHS honors local veterans in a special Veterans’ Day Chapel. Local veterans are invited to attend the chapel and reception.

Honor Roll Breakfast. Each Spring the NHS honors Faith West students who have maintained an A average in all of their classes.

Back-to-School Faculty Lunch. Each Fall the NHS provides a welcome back lunch during teacher in-service.
