Note from Coach Sandy Brown: Cross Country News
The 2007 FWA Cross Country season has come to a close and with it long lasting bonds have been formed among the runners, along with stories and memories that will be cherished forever. We started off the season with 12 runners, 5 in junior high – Dalton Stark, Richmond Carmona, Francisco Santarose, Evann Broussard, and Gianna Santi and 7 on varsity – Chrissy Ellis, Jessica Stewart, E.J. Gomez, David Muncey, Will Jones, Seth Strickland, and Travis Broussard. From those 12, only 4 had run cross country before. This was a new beginning for many of them. Some ran to be better prepared for an upcoming sport and others ran because they wanted to try something new. Many of the runners set their goals and achieved them.
This past weekend was our state competition in San Antonio. I was so very proud of Jessica Stewart who is a state finalist, placing 4th with a time of 13:30 for 2 miles. Chrissy Ellis had set a goal of breaking 15:00 and DID! She ran 2 miles in 14:56. I am especially proud of my freshman boys, they started the season running 2 mile races and were told four weeks ago that they have to run 3 miles for the state competition. The first time they ran the 3 mile race, our goal was to make it under 30 minutes and they DID! E.J. Gomez ran his state run in 22:08 he dropped 2 minutes from his last race. David Muncey ran his race in 24:30 and Will Jones ran his race in 25:35. ALL the runners achieved their personal best. If you ask me, you can’t do any better than that!
Thank you All for being patience with me – I know I can drive you crazy sometimes! ;)

Faith West Junior High Cross Country Team: The junior high cross country team had their district meet at CCS. All three runners representing our school placed in the top ten and brought home medals. Richmond Carmona, who had been out for three weeks with an injured leg, placed 10th. Francisco Santarose, out with an injured neck returned to place 5th, and our district champ Dalton Stark came home with the first place medal with a 9:27 in his 1.5 mile run. He won the race in the last threee steps to the finish line. Congratulations to these dedicated team members and Coach Sandy Brown for an amazing season.
Our Cross Country athletes are champs!
Saturday, October 20th, our Faith West Cross Country team ran the St. John’s Ramble at Buffalo Bayou Park. This course has always been a challenge with 7 to 8 tough hills to run throughout the 3 for the boys or 2 for the girls’ mile course. Our runners ran this hard and came out with some of the best personal times. Coach Brown is proud of her team and she is especially proud of the freshmen boys who have had to make adjustments from running a 2-mile course to a 3-mile course in preparation for state. E.J. Gomez, David Muncey and Will Jones beat their time by almost 2 minutes. Travis Broussard and Seth Strickland ran a hard race staying close to their personal times.
Again, this was a tough course and all the runners finished strong! Chrissy Ellis ran a good race staying close to her personal best times. Jessica Stewart placed 22 with a time of 14:01 from division I and II, bringing home a medal. Dalton Stark ran an impressive race being one of the only 6th graders running against 7th and 8th graders and placing 4th with a time of 9:47 for a 1.5 mile; Dalton also brought home a medal. And congratulations to Richmond Carmona who ran his first race in 3 weeks after injuring his leg. This was a challenge but Richmond finished strong.
