FWA Art Classes

The Art Department of Faith West Academy is eager to stimulate the creative talents of each child. The components of our fine arts program incorporate visual communication and production, cultural context and art history, judgment and criticism, and aesthetics. It is through acquisition of these concepts, content and skills that the goals for visual arts can be realized. A comprehensive visual arts program provides each child with the opportunity to express, analyze and evaluate information that is conveyed by images and symbols

The content of our curriculum is intended to support the following goals that will enable each student to:

  • Select and use medium, subject matter, and symbols for expression and communication;
  • Understand the elements of art and the principles of design and how they are utilized in the visual arts;
  • Solve visual arts problems with originality, fluency, flexibility, and imagination;
  • Enhance students fine motor skills and appreciation/care of art tools and equipment;
  • Utilize materials, methods, information and technology in a safe and ethical manner;
  • Understand the relationship of the visual arts to history, culture, and other fields of knowledge;
  • Perceive, reflect upon, and evaluate in a positive manner the characteristics, purposes, and merits of their work and the work of others;
  • Identify, analyze, and apply criteria for making visual aesthetic judgments; and
  • Develop an aesthetic awareness and personal philosophy regarding nature, meaning, and value in the visual arts.
